Family Night Scavenger Hunt

Our lives seem to go in many directions these days so we have set aside one night a week to actually do something as a family. For our first family night we planned a scavenger hunt to go with our walk along the Animas River Trail. Sweatshirts on, it is getting a little cool here, lists in hand and out the door we go.
A small delay, Suburban won't start, must have left a light on or the door ajar.
Ok, Josh's vehicle may not look so great on the outside, but the battery in the PT would not start us but his would! Josh to the rescue.
Yes, everyone in were ready to go!

We dropped the kids off at the trail head and then took the van to our end destination so we only had to walk one direction.
While we were gone the kids had some fun on the swings with my camera getting photos of them flying off.

There goes Ruth and Drew.
Steven flying
Josh flying
April landing, I hope!!
The girls team
The studly guys team. Winner picks the dessert!!
Girls looking for gum, guys looking for a fish.
Girls success!
Our train
No going over the train bridge!!
Ice Cream Cones for dessert, who won you say? Ok it was actually a tie!!

Over all a great evening! Anybody with more ideas for our next Family Night let me know?!

Ouray,Colorado with the Maclennans

The town of Ouray nestled between mountains is where my brother and his family live. We traveled about 75 miles from our home in Durango over several mountain passes to reach them on Labor Day weekend. The day had a chance of scattered showers and of course they found us during our hike to view the town from above! We came back to their house and waited out the storm, and dried off a bit. When the storm let up we set out for their new house up the mountain to have a cook out. On the menu was hobo stew, garlic french bread (both items cooked over the fire), layered salad, watermellon and of course smores! Sounds pretty good! It was! The kids also fished in their pond and cooked one of the fish. No shortage of food here. Next time we will remember to bring some flash lights! A little dark when the sun goes down and the fire is put out! A great time was had by all! Thanks Maclennans!

Arches National Park

We took a little side trip on the way home from the wedding in Oregon to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah. It is about three hours from our home. Very cool rock formations, but might I suggest that you go there when it is a little cooler! It was over 100 degrees while we were there! We only saw a few of them because we were out of water and it really was very hot! Worth the trip though!

Joel and Emily's Wedding

The day of Joel and Emily's wedding was absolutely beautiful. There was a bit of cloud covering and then some patches of sun just to assure us that there would be no rain on this day! Everything was so well organized that if there was some sort of glitch no one noticed! The yard was spectacular, a gardener's dream. Romantically lights were strung in trees and bushes to give us a glow while we celebrated. The desserts were beautiful and delicious, or so I'm told, OK who am I trying to kid? Yes, I tried most of them, I think I missed a few!

Our very dear friends the Hellwegs, who live in Oregon City, let us stay with them while attending Joel's wedding. So great to be able to stretch out and let the kids play in their gorgeous log home! We met the Hellwegs on the day that Joel was born so it was fitting that they have a part in this great celebration.
